Building acoustics

Acoustical consulting is intended to help achieve proper acoustic design of buildings. In more specific terms, this means:

  • designing the ceiling and floor structures so that the level of transmitted impact noise is not perceived as disturbing,
  • planning the sound insulation of walls, doors and ceilings so that annoying and disturbing noise from sounds coming from outside the building or adjacent rooms are avoided, and
  • ensuring that technical facilities (machinery) within the building are installed in an acoustically correct manner, meaning that the lowest possible amount of structure-borne sound is inserted into the building.

The first objective of our consultation activities is to meet applicable standards and technical regulations. In addition, it is necessary to satisfy the client's specific requirements with regard to use and comfort.

In some cases, such as hospitals, medical clinics and many administrative buildings, it is necessary to plan for rooms that meet demands for confidentiality. Unusually severe planning requirements also arise with music conservatories, studios and acoustic measurement rooms, as well as concert halls and convention centres where different performances or events can take place simultaneously.
